Normec Verifavia has signed a strategic agreement with the Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR) to support South Korean exporters in meeting the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) requirements. The official signing took place on March 10, 2025, at our Paris headquarters, with KTR President Kim Hyun-Cheol and our President, Nicolas Duchêne, in attendance.
The EU’s CBAM introduces carbon-related tariffs on non-EU imports across six key sectors—steel, electricity, fertilizers, aluminum, cement, and hydrogen. With full implementation set for 2026 and the transition phase already in effect since October 2023, exporters must now monitor, report, and verify carbon emissions linked to their products.
As an independent verification body, Normec Verifavia ensures the accuracy and integrity of emissions reporting through impartial, accredited verification services. KTR, as a leading testing and research institute, plays a crucial role in engaging with Korean exporters, facilitating emissions data collection, and ensuring businesses understand CBAM requirements.
In collaboration with KTR, we support Korean exporters in meeting CBAM requirements by providing:
Together, this partnership strengthens the compliance framework for Korean companies, ensuring seamless access to the EU market while upholding regulatory standards.
As a trusted verifier, Normec Verifavia remains committed to objective emissions validation, ensuring compliance with EU regulations without providing consultancy or advisory services.
As an independent EU-accredited verification body, Normec Verifavia brings extensive expertise in emissions monitoring and regulatory compliance. Our experience under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) positions us to provide companies with accredited verification and address key challenges.
CBAM poses a major challenge for South Korea’s export-driven industries, particularly steel and aluminum. Many companies face difficulties in adapting to the evolving regulatory framework. This partnership provides structured compliance support, reducing risks and ensuring continued access to the European market.
This agreement strengthens Normec Verifavia’s position as a leading independent verifier, supporting businesses in navigating environmental regulatory policies.
