The Smart Freight Centre Conformity Assessment Scheme offers independent evaluation of how well companies align with best practices in emissions reporting for freight transport. The scheme now covers both the GLEC Framework (for physical emissions) and the Market-Based Measures (MBM) Specification, making it one of the most comprehensive verification pathways in the logistics sector.
About ISO 14083 and the MBM Specification
ISO 14083 is the international standard for quantifying and reporting GHG emissions from transport chains. It formalizes best practices from the GLEC Framework and is now widely used for emissions disclosure, target setting, and climate reporting.
The MBM Specification supports transparent reporting of environmental benefits from instruments like SAF certificates, renewable fuels, and book-and-claim mechanisms — ensuring claims are robust, traceable, and aligned with SBTi and other emerging standards.
Why It Matters
Participation in the scheme helps companies:
- Demonstrate ISO 14083 and GLEC alignment
- Verify credible use of market-based emissions reductions
- Build trust with clients, supply chain partners and other stakeholders
- Stand out in procurement processes and carbon-conscious markets
Our Role & Experience
As independent verifiers, we assess the accuracy and integrity of both physical and market-based emissions reporting. We’ve verified GHG statements and book-and-claim systems for Logistics Service Providers, Fuel suppliers, Carriers and Shippers, for emissions and claims generated in air, marine and road transport.
