Sustainable Ships Hosted Maritime Sustainability Q&A with Normec Verifavia

Maritime Sustainability Q&A Series: Sustainable Ships Hosts Insightful Session with Normec Verifavia Experts

As the maritime industry navigates an increasingly complex path toward decarbonization, knowledge-sharing and expert guidance become essential. Recently, Sustainable Ships, a leading maritime sustainability hub, hosted a compelling session in their Maritime Sustainability Q&A series titled: “FuelEU and MEPC 83: GFS vs FuelEU Explained.”

Normec Verifavia was honored to be invited as expert speakers, sharing insights on the regulatory challenges and practical implications of evolving maritime emissions frameworks.

The session focused on two crucial regulatory pillars:

  • The European Union’s FuelEU Maritime regulation, specifically the Greenhouse Gas Fuel Standard (GFS)
  • The International Maritime Organization’s Net Zero strategy (MEPC 83)

These regulations have distinct scopes but overlapping impacts on shipping stakeholders. The discussion provided attendees with the latest available information on MEPC 83 and FuelEU, helping them better understand how to navigate these evolving frameworks and align their compliance and decarbonization strategies.

The panel included Vincent Doedée, Founder of Sustainable Ships, who moderated the Q&A, alongside Normec Verifavia experts Yuvraj Thakur, VP Commercial & Managing Director, and Rajat Bishnoi, Shipping Emissions & Performance Director, who shared insights on verification challenges, regulatory developments, emissions monitoring, and compliance strategies.

Together, they addressed participant questions and explored the similarities and differences between FuelEU’s GFS and the IMO’s MEPC 83 framework, offering practical guidance for shipowners, operators, and regulators.

The session drew a diverse audience of shipowners, fleet managers, sustainability officers, and regulators who actively engaged with the expert panel. Attendees praised the clear explanations and practical insights, boosting their confidence in regulatory compliance and decarbonization.

This successful Q&A underscores the value of collaboration between Sustainable Ships, a digital sustainability hub, and Normec Verifavia, a leader in regulatory verification and advisory, working together to support the maritime industry’s sustainable future.

Looking Ahead

Building on this success, Sustainable Ships and Normec Verifavia plan to continue collaborating to deliver further sessions in the Maritime Sustainability Q&A series, helping the maritime community stay informed, compliant, and ready to meet the challenges of a net-zero future.
